It's Thursday again. Here is my 13 for this week.

Thirteen Things You Need To Make Chicken and Dumplings

1. 1 lb boneless chicken, cut up, coated with flour
2. 1/4 c. onion, chopped
3. 1 T. oil
4. 4 cans chicken broth
5. 3 potatoes, cut up
6. 2 carrots, cut up
7. 3 stalks celery, cut up
8. 3 tsp. Worcestershire sauce
9. 1/2 c. flour
10. 1/2 c. cold water
11. 4 strips cooked bacon, but into pieces
12. dumplings, either us frozen or bisquick mix
13. salt and pepper to taste

Cook chicken in a large sauce pan coated with a T of oil with the onion till done, or you see no pink. Add broth, bring to a boil and reduce heat and simmer 45 minutes. Add potatoes, carrots, celery and bacon. Simmer till vegetables are cooked. Add some water or more broth if your broth doesn't cover the veggies. Add salt and pepper to the Worcestershire sauce. In a small jar add water and flour. Shake well to mix. Slowly add to soup while stirring constantly. Soup will start to thicken. Add dumplings and cook till they are done. If using bisquick combine 2 cups mix and 2/3 c. milk, dumplings will take 20-25 minutes.

Taking a day for me.

I was off today, and since I had a Dr. appointment I thought I would take a drive and look around a bit. Since moving to this area I haven't had a lot of time for ME.
We have a wonderful park close to our house that I love to visit. I found the park years ago before moving here. There is a campground that is part of it, and my hubby and I have been there several times for weekends. One side of the park is for camping and the other is full of trails, a place to fish, and picnic. I had my camera with me in hopes of finding something to post about today. Here is what I came up with.
I love how the red barn contrast against the blue water. It looked so peaceful with the woods in the background. The second picture is one of the same area, just using the zoom lens. The last picture turned out awesome. I love how the sun was hitting the ground from the reflection of the trees.
I hope everyone is enjoying there day.

My favorite dog

I think out of all the dog breeds, the Collie is my all time favorite. Part of this is due to me remembering my first dog. When I was about 4 we had a collie who's name was Queen. I can remember being outside and Queen walking along side me. My mom tells me that is because she would guard me and make sure I didn't try and cross the road. Evidentially we lived on a corner and I was allowed to play on the sidewalk but not go across the street. She was a smart dog. I think we had her for a couple of years. When I was five my dad joined the Navy and we moved from GA. to CALIF. Queen was given to a farm where she lived out her life herding sheep. We went once a few years after the move to visit her. She remembered us and I have never forgot her.
I suppose this happy childhood memory lead me to my love of Lassie
I remember sitting in front of the TV watching her adventures. No matter how much trouble Timmy got in Lassie always came to the rescue. I always knew she would get help in the end, Timmy would be fine and life would go on. I loved that dog and always wished for my own Lassie. I did get to see Lassie once. He (did you know Lassie was really a male) was in a parade in San Diego. It was a proud moment. I think the dog impressed me more than anything else. Although I do remember once seeing Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, riding on Trigger at the same parade.(I can't remember if it was the same year)
While remembering all this a few days ago, I decided to do a Google search for Lassie. I found theOfficial site along with theUnofficial one, which has some wonderful Lassie Trivia on it. While playing around on the official site I ran across the web page for
Jon Provost who stared in the original show as Timmy. He has a great site, and after I finished reading it I stopped to sign his guestbook. Much to my delight a couple of days later I received the following email. It was from Jon himself. I am posting it here for everyone to read. Be sure and visit and tell him hello.

Dear (My real name)
Thanks for your kind words about my work on the show. I really
appreciate you taking the time to let me know what it meant to you.
Stay
well and stop by the site again soon. And now that I have your e-mail
address, I'll let you know when I'm going to be on TV or in your area.
Best,
Jon Provost

Money doesn't grow on trees

I seriously need a money tree. My hubby and I both got our first pay checks from the new jobs this week. (YEAH!!) Unfortunately it was gone before I got my purse zipped back up from cashing the check. Several weeks ago my car failed state inspection. I needed tires. Thankfully the ex offered to pay for them and let us pay him back. I was really grateful and took him up on the loan.
This morning I handed him all my cash. Oh well easy come easy go. At lest I have tires. I know I needed them, but I really would rather have the money tree.
I don't understand why I can't just plant one in the yard. I mean we can plant apples, and oranges, and peaches and pears, and just about any other type of tree you can think of, why not a money tree. Wouldn't it be great. Just think, you could step outside the door and pick off twenty dollar bills any time you needed some cash. Trees with hundred dollars bills would be my choice.
Oh well, it was a nice thought.

Anyway,
I was off today and my hubby and I spent some over due time alone. We took a drive and ended up once again at the local SPCA. I am really in a I WANT A CAT mood. I miss my babies I gave away. I have always had a cat. My husband tried to pacify me with flowers. I love the flowers, but I want a cat. My daughter says no cat until I move. I am still pouting. Then my hubby reminded me that I have two cats at home. At first I didn't know what he was talking about. Then I remembered.

Somehow it just isn't the same, sigh. Oh well at lest these two don't need to have a litter box, and they did seem to like the flowers. I suppose they will just have to do until I can get a real one. Maybe tomorrow I will go to the local greenhouse. I am sure there must be a money tree somewhere.

I'm bored

Ugh,
This has been a long week and it is only Thursday. I have decide after only two weeks of working at the pet store that I am bored to tears. I like the job ok, but they don't have much business. I am a cashier so I am stuck standing around with nothing to do. I can walk away about 10 ft in each direction but I have to keep the register in view. This is driving me crazy. I am twiddling my thumbs. Sometimes a half hour will go by without anyone checking out. Of course like most retail stores the management wants us to find something to do so we are not just standing around getting paid for doing nothing. It makes for a long long day. I have a hard time finding something to do. I mean come on really just how many times a day can I push a package of dog treats back on the peg and then forward on the peg at the end of the counter to make it appear that I am not BORED!It is so bad that I am counting dog bones just to stay busy. I am really really BORED. Today I took the calendars that have pictures of dogs and cats on them out of the rack and alphabetized them and put them back. This is really bad. I need something to do. We don't even have music playing in the store. We are not suppose to stand around and talk with the other clerks. It is hard to just stand around. Did I mention I am B-O-R-E-D.

I am beginning to think maybe this job was a mistake. My daughter is beginning to think putting her son in day care was a mistake. She told me the other day that she would rather pay me what she pays them and just let me keep him again. Right now I need to keep the job because we are trying to get money together to move into a different unit in the apt. complex. I need a "real job" to show the rental agent so we can qualify. I may quit in a few months though. I really miss the baby and he isn't doing as well the last few weeks. He has a runny nose, and is not eating well for us. He cries and wants to go to bed early. I think he needs his mommy or his grandma or both.

I know if I go back to keeping him full time it will be a 24 hour a day job. His mommy just isn't ready to take on the responsibility of keeping him as much as she should and with her trying to work two jobs, she is tired and wants time to herself. I can understand, but I need time too. Only not quite as much..Anyone need dog food? My line is open.

A nice memory

"Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart."

This is my friend Sharon. She has been on my mind a lot lately. Sharon passed away about 8 years ago. I wasn't with her in the end. I have always regretted that, but there were things going on in my life at the time that pevented it. I know some people will disagree with me, but I know she understood why.
Sharon and I were very close. We shared a lot with each other. We even had some secrets that have never been revealed. They never will be. When Sharon passed she was cremated. Her ashes were released several years later after her husband re-married. I wasn't invited to attend that day, but I was there in spirit. From what I was told it was a very beautiful ceremony and for that I do thank her family.
Even though there are differences now that prevent me from being close to the family. Sharon will always have a very special part in my life. She was one of a kind and no one can replace her.
May she find peace in the after life.

Dear Abby

My mom gave me the following article today. I had to laugh when I read it. I did pretty good until I got # 4. Nope I am never going to be Mature. To many issues. Besides mature people are old and boring.

"Maturity is 1) the ablity to stick with a job until it is finished; 2)the ablity to do a job unsupervised;3)the ablity to carry money without spending it, and 4)
the ability to bear an injustice without wanting to get even"

Nope 4 did me in. I will get even you can count on it.

Happy Ostara

Happy Ostara to all of my Pagan Friends. Happy Spring Equinox to everyone else.

Just in case you didn't know this already. Twice a year, day and night become equal in length.
The first of these, the Spring or Vernal Equinox occurs on or about March 21st.
The ancient goddess, Eostre, a Saxon deity who marked not only the passage of time but also symbolized new life and fertility, was the key symbol of this celebration which was also known as Ostara.
For fun try balancing an egg on its end today.
Both Pagans and Christians use eggs as a part of the clebrations that occur this time of year.
I have always dyed eggs, I remember having Easter Egg hunts when I was growing up, and when I became a mom I always hid them for my kids. Somewhere in a box I have some pictures of the kids dressed up with an Easter Basket. When I have time I will find them and scan them.
While visiting Dirt Under My Nails
I found the following link.

Thanks to for sharing that with us Maria.
Enjoy your day everyone

I miss my kitty

Working in a pet supply store is really a lot of fun. It is a bit more boring than I would like as far as keeping busy goes, but after being in a job where I had to ring a certain amount sales each day to keep my standard pay I am not going to complain.
Working this job is a bit dangerous though because I am an animal lover. I feel like a big kid everytime that door opens and I see a dog come in. Some times they just walk past, but usually the dogs are just as happy to see me. They come runnning in ready to give kisses which I always return (if the owner doesn't
mind) with a treat. We keep bits of dog biscuits for them and it makes for a happy dog. We also had a few cats come in last week. One which was offered to me for free if I would take it home. That was tempting, but I know right now being in my daughter's home I can't have one. Hopefully things will change soon and we will be able to move into our own apartment. First thing on the list for me is to adopt a kitten. I am already thinking of names.
In the mean time I miss not having a pet in the house, so I took a walk down memory lane and found some pictures of pets I have had in the past. I am posting a few photo's.

This first one is Dusty. Dusty was always a dumb dog. He would run away every time the door was open. We had him a year or so when one day while I was getting in groceries in he took off on me. We started looking for him within 5-10
minutes but he was gone. We searched everywhere, but couldn't find him. We think someone stole him.

The next dog is Gretchen. Gretchen was a sweet baby. She loved us but could never get inside and outside straight. She went out to play and came in and peed. We kept her out sometimes an hour and she would still go on the carpet. We put up with it about a year then we had to give her away. I just couldn't take it any more. I cried for a few days over that one.

Last but not lest is Buster. Buster is my baby. We paid big bucks for him. He was a good dog, and I hated to lose him. We gave him to friends when we made this last move. It was really hard on us to lose him but I know he got a good home. I get emails from my friend on how he is doing. I am happy to report he has adjusted well.
The pictures of the cats are Whiskers

and Miss Kitty
I have had there pictures on here before. We had to let them go too when we moved. Every time I have to give a pet away, I swear to myself that is the last one. It hurts when we no longer have them to love. Even time though I find myself getting another pet. I already know I am getting a cat. I won't even try to fool myself by saying no more. I am to big of a sucker. I like pets better than I do most people. Especially lately ha ha.

Spring is coming

I wonder if I click my heels three times and repeat over and over Spring is coming, Spring is coming, Spring is coming will it help? After having beautiful warm weather last week we have another cold snap. I hate this time of year. Not winter not spring. I have had a cold all week. Every time I think it is gone I get a new symptom. I just keep telling myself to hang in there, warm weather is almost here. Just a few more weeks before the heat stays. In the meantime enjoy the picture. I took it a few weeks ago when we went to the zoo.

Old People Say The Funniest Things

Don't think of it as getting hot flashes. Think of it as your
inner child playing with matches.

A 97-year-old man goes into his doctor's office and says, "Doc,
I want my sex drive lowered." "Sir," replied the doctor, "you're 97 Don't
you think your sex drive is all in your head?" "You're damned right it
is!" replied the old man. "That's why I want it lowered!"

And my personal favortie:
THE SENILITY PRAYER : Grant me the senility to forget the
people I never liked anyway, the good fortune to run into the ones I do,
and the eyesight to tell the difference.

Don't piss me off I am running out of places to hide the bodies

Lately it seems that no matter how hard I try not to let it happen, people are pissing me off. Right now my grandson's dad is at the top of my list. My daughter works her butt off cleaning houses all day, plus works at a club 3-4 nights a week just to make a living. My grandson's dad doesn't give her a penny in the way of child support. Deep down she knows that she needs to take him to court, but she has hung on and hoped for the last ten months he would be a real man and help financially with his son.
It looks more and more like that isn't going to happen without a fight In the last three months all she has received from him are two boxes of diapers and 24 jars of baby food.
I am not sure what the problem is. I can only guess that he thinks the baby pees and eats only three or four times a month, since there is no way that what he has given for the baby could last that long.
This kid is such a loser that it was his mom and not him who paid for those things. He refuses to get a real job. He does odd jobs and gets paid "under the table". He does that to get out of paying taxes and he claims he never has any money. It upsets me to see my daughter working all the time because this little prick won't get off his butt and do the right thing. My daughter wants so badly to be independent and make it on her on. I hate it that she has spend so much time away from her son. Sometimes I want to beat down his door and shake him. It's like duh, wake up here you have a child that needs to be taken care of.
It's hard enough when you're married to raise kids; it is even harder to do it when you are a single mom. I was married to my ex for almost 5 years before our son was born. His dad was military so we had a home, two cars and a fairy tale life. Both my son and daughter were planned and I have never been sorry that I had them. It makes me sad now because I don't think my kids feel the same way about there own children. My son lives here and his daughter is living on the west coast. Him and his wife are separated; they haven't been to court yet, but he faithfully sends her money every week. He knows that if he did not have her he would have a lot more money and opportunity to do things. My daughter is the same way. She loves her child, yet she knows she made a mistake by having him. Sometimes I just sit and cry. No one ever said life was fair, but as a mom we want to make it perfect for our kids. Unfortunately someone forgot to inform the rest of the world.

SCHNITZ UND KNEPP

This is another recipe from the new cookbook. I have never heard of this but it sounds yummy. The notes in the book said this is an old Pennsylvania Dutch recipe meaning "Apples and Buttons" (the dumplings are the buttons). It is made from dried apples, ham and dumplings. It is listed as a kind of sweet and sour dish.

SCHNITZ UND KNEPP

Ingredients

3 lbs. Smoked ham with bone

4 cups dried TART apples

1 large onion, finely chopped

2 med. Potatoes, cut into ½ inch cubes (optional)

Dumplings

2 cups of flour

1/2 tsp. salt

4 teaspoons baking powder

3 tablespoons unsalted butter

1 egg beaten

1/2-2/3 cup milk

Cover ham in large pot with cold water. Bring to boil, reduce heat and simmer for 2 hours or until ham is tender. Meanwhile, put apples in a bowl and cover with water. Soak for at lest 2 hours. Remove ham from the bone and cut into medium pieces. Return ham to liquid. Add apples, with most of the apple liquid to the ham. Add brown sugar and onion. Cover and simmer for 30 minutes. Add potatoes and simmer 30 additional minutes.

For dumplings, sift together the flour, salt and baking powder. Cut in butter with two knives or pastry cutter. Stir in eggs. Gradually add enough milk to make a moist, fairly soft dough. Drop dough by tablespoons into gently boiling ham -apple liquid. Cover tightly and simmer for 12-15 minutes, or until dumplings are done. Serve immediately.

NOTE:

You can use your favorite baking mix for the dumplings. Just follow directions on the package. Dried Tart apples are hard to find in my area, but they can be ordered from various sources. You could also dehydrate your own. However make sure you use TART not sweet apples.

Day off

Today is the first day I have had off since I started the new job. I'm glad because I am tired. I know that part of the problem is that I am over weight and out of shape, but gee you wouldn't think starting back to work after sitting around for a couple of months would make me feel like I had been hit by a truck. My body is really feeling it today. I know I should diet and exercise more, but I don't want to. I'm tired and I just want to sit and stare out the window. I must be getting old. Yeah that is it. I'm getting old. Old people get away with so many things. Just think, if I am forgetful I can just say, Oh well I am getting old. If I can't see something with out my glasses I can say, oh well I am getting old. Hey that could work. I could have an excuse for almost anything this way. Ok I have decided, I am old. There I don't have to worry about that any more. Oh wait. This won't work. I can't be old. Old ladies stay home, they go to old lady luncheons, and do charity work. I don't have time for those things. Darn, Ok. I am tired today because I am over weight and out of shape. There I said it!

Pretty Bird

My favorite pet of the day today is the Macaw Parrot. Two women came in today to do a little shopping and both of them had a bird perched on an arm. I have always loved the colors on these birds. I don't especially want one for myself, but I was impressed that they came to visit the store.

A New Cookbook

My mom gave my daughter a cookbook today. The women who put it together are from her church. Mom has been going to this church forever and most of these women have known each other for years. I am really surprised they are giving up the "secrets" but some of them are getting old and I guess maybe they think it is time to pass on what they know to a younger generation. I stopped going to church a long time ago but I have to admit that nothing can beat a church cookbook, or a church supper. I remember as a child having lunch after the church service and everything was always so yummy. Table after table of everything from fried chicken to home made pies and cakes. It seemed like there was always enough food to feed an army and wow did those women know how to cook. So when I came home from work and found out the book was from the church my first thought was Hey I want a copy. I collect a lot of recipe books. I get them on the off chance that someday I might cook something from one of them. I really don’t know why I bother because I don't have time to plan big meals now days. I did a lot of "country cooking" when my kids were young but now I collect the books “just in case”. Just in case what, I am not sure. Just in case someday I meet a millionaire and he takes me away from my crazy life and buys me a big house and can hire a woman to assist me. Or maybe my mom invites her church ladies over YIKES. Or maybe just in case I hit the lottery, and have nothing better to do with my days but cook. Oh well, if the "just in case" ever happens I will let you know because right now I don’t have a lot of time on my hands. Back in the "good ole days" when I was married to my ex I was a stay at home mom. I always made sure my house was clean and supper was on the table every night. Sadly as things with the marriage went down hill I lost touch with the domestic side of me. For several years I let the house go, and just threw something together for supper or better yet sent out for fast food. My life got crazy and no one ate together. The ex and I didn't bother because we were both spending too much time on the computer. We had two computers at the time and he would be chatting away in one room and me in the other. Being domestic somehow got put on the back burner. Now years later since that marriage has ended, and my heart and mind have begun to heal I find that I have started to get fussy about the house and want a hot meal on the table. Don't you know life always seems to throw things at us that way. I have remarried, I work, I help take care of my grandson, and I don't have time to plan meals like I use to. Oh well, at lest my daughter said we can share the book. As I get a chance I will post some of the recipes out of it to my blog. It has over 350 pages of wonderful mouth-watering things to eat.

Cute dog of the day

Today was a bit slower than yesterday, but we still had a few people come in with dogs. My favorite today was a tiny Yorkshire terrier. He pranced around so proud, just like the big boys. When it was time for his owner to check out I gave him a treat. Yummy.

Doggies on Parade

Well I survived day two at the pet store. It went really well, and I enjoyed the day because we were busy. Lots of people brought in pets today. Mostly dogs, but I saw a guinea pig and a parrot. The bird impressed me more than it's owner, who came in with it perched on her arm.. She was one of those people who couldn't get off the cell phone long enough to pay for her purchase. People who yap while paying for things really tick me off. It makes me mad when I have finished ringing someone up and I have to stand there waiting on them to shut up. I want to yell, Hey I'm done here, can you pay me now. Why can't people simply say to who ever they are having a conversation with. "hey can you hold on" I mean my god, it takes all of 30 second to get the amount due and hand the clerk the money. Can people not shut up for 30 seconds? I do have to admit that I did find what she was telling her friend on the phone interesting. She was saying that she took her bird to the beach today and feed bread to the sea gulls. I felt a little sorry for the parrot. I wonder if it was jealous that it couldn't fly up to join the others. Anyway, as I said , we had lots of dogs. Big dogs, little dogs, and everything in between. I only had to clean up two accidents which happened next to my register. That wasn't bad considering how many dogs were in and out all day. Fortunately both were puddles, but the last one of the day about did me in. It was a St. Bernard. Do any of you out there in blog land know how much a St. Bernard can pee? Well lets put it this way. I do not have a bladder that big. I had to clean it up with paper towels. Which I found a bit gross. I'm not sure why. I mean I have cleaned up lots of dog pee before, having pets of my own over the years. It must be sort of like it is with kids. You never seem to mind changing a diaper when it is on one of your kids, but you don't want to do it for the lady next door. Ewwww. Anyway that experience gave me a list of things to buy before I go to work tomorrow.

First Day

After being in such a sour mood yesterday I woke up today excited about starting the new job. Things went well, and I feel like I will have the hang of everything soon. The only downside is I have to learn a new cash register system, but I am sure in a few days it will be routine. I was amazed to find so many different kinds of dog and cat food on the isles. I am use to just running to the local grocery and buying what ever was the cheapest. I know... Shame on me I was a bad pet mommy, but hey they ate it. Anyway I was impressed by some of the ingredients in the foods. Yummy holistic brands that were all organic and contained things like sweet potatoes, tomatoes and real meat. No fillers for those pampered pups. Several people came in today with a dog, and I started missing the one I had to give away. I told myself when I gave mine to friends that would be the last dog for me. Living in an apartment just isn't fair, but seeing the pups today made me give it a second thought. I guess I will see how it goes in a couple of months when my hubby and I finally get to move again. As for the hours I should be working 40 every week. I am glad. I want NORMAL. At lest this is a good start.

Kids and cats

Remember a few days ago when Gizmo and Lilly posed for pictures? Well I caught them playing together and couldn't resist taking a few pictures.

My 9 month old grandson loves the cats, and decided he wanted in the game. He is getting to be such a big boy. I hope you enjoy the pictures.

Saying of the day

You know how some people have a quote of the day, well I saw these and thought I would have a saying of the day today.

Some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them.

It is as bad as you think and they are out to get you.

All Stressed out and no one to choke.

I can be one of those bad things that happen to people

Yes, I listen to the voices in my head and they don't like you either

This was my favorite today

DON'T UPSET ME! I'M RUNNING OUT OF PLACES TO HIDE THE BODIES.

Can I eat her now?

I have always heard that some species of animals eat there young. I am wondering, is it to late for me to do that? My daughter is at the bottom of my top ten list right now. No wait. She is so low she is off my top ten list. She got another speeding ticket which means she will lose her license. She has been on probation for having to many tickets, and was already told any violation would cost her the license. We don't know yet for what amount of time since all this just happened late last night, but even one day makes it a complete royal pain in the butt. She is a single mom working two jobs, and needs to be able to drive. We are hoping that she can apply to have a restricted license at lest. That way she can drive herself to work and back, which will include taking her son to day care. If for some reason this doesn't happen then it is going to fall on me, my husband and her dad to drive her back and forth. What a pain. We are already going to cut things close when it comes to bathroom time. The daughter has been leaving about 7:30, but with the new day care she needs to really leave around 7. That means that both her and I have to get dressed so I can drive her, then I have get back and be at work myself at 9. Ok that is do-able, but she gets off at different times every day which means someone has to pick her up. This is going to fall to her dad since he gets home by 2 or so each day.
Ok so all this sounds good, but it is still going to be a pain in the butt. Now for the second job. She works nights, sometimes till 2 am. No one can get up at 2 am and get her..So as you can see no one is happy. I had just started feeling happy about having a job, knowing that I was going to be able to give her wings in a few weeks and my hubby and I could get a place of our own. Now it looks like we are stuck again. I refuse, and I repeat refuse to move out and then have to get up and come pick her up from across town. I wonder if she will taste better fried or boil? Can someone pass the ketchup please?

Shop till you drop

My daughter and I went shopping a couple of days ago. She is trying to find a few things for her apartment. I love the colors in the candle holders, and even though the horse is not something I would use in my own decorating I have to admit I do like it.

While browsing around I found this wonderful door mat, you can't tell by the picture but it has Celtic knot work on it. My daughter saw it and told me to stick it in the basket that she wanted to buy it for me. Do you think she might be hinting for me to get a house to go along with it? Hmmmm.

Time for changes

As the wheel turns so do the pages of my life..Hmmmm, that sounds like an opening line from a soap opera. Wait I think that was a line from a soap opera, and if it wasn't it should be. The way my life has been lately I feel like I am living in a soaper most of the time anyway.
On the serious side, things are about to change again. I have been living in a some what in between world the last few weeks and it is has been hard on everyone. Lots of chaos. I mean transition (thanks for that outlook Connie) going on and I have been anxious to get back to normal, or at lest somewhat normal. Part of that transition time has been spent waiting for my daughter to stabilize with her job and my hubby to get started with his. Thankfully both of those things have happen, and now it is my turn. I have been anxious for awhile now to get back to work, and today I got the call I had been waiting for. I GOT A JOB!!
I start work on Friday. YES!!
I am doing the happy dance. I am so sick of being broke and sitting around twiddling my thumbs. Don't get me wrong. I love keeping my grandson, and it is going to kill me for his mommy to put him in a day care but I am so ready to be the grown up again I can't wait. I want my own life back. I want my own place to live, I want my boxes unpacked and I want my life to be back to normal. I just want peace and a chance at some kind of happiness in my life. I don't think that is asking to much. I have had my share of bad times and I am sick of them. I am not getting any younger and I want NORMAL!
Anyway I am excited about the job. I will be working for one of those large pet supply stores. You know the kind where people bring there dogs in on Saturday and walk around. It is one of those stores that have customers who spoil Fluffy and Max by bringing them in to pick out the new toy. I am a sucker for animals so I know I am going to love this job. I will be doing something I like for a change and not having to deal with little old ladies looking for the right size bra, or bratty little kids telling mom and dad that they won't wear a pair of jeans unless it has the latest fashion brand name on it. I will be working with crazy people like myself who think that there dog is just a big kid and should have a new toy just because he pooped outside and not on the carpet! Of course I am sure the job will have a down side, like cleaning up the poop that they did on the nice pet stores floor, but we will deal with that when the days comes. For now I am in doggies heaven.

Finding time to enjoy little things Wheel of the year photo

This morning I remembered that it was time to take another picture for my "Wheel Of the Year" photos. It is cold outside but I grabbed my camera and stepped out on the balcony. Hurrying back inside I downloaded what I had to the web and opened my viewer to take a closer look. I have to admit I was taken back a little at what I saw and it made me realize that I need to slow down and pay attention to the world around me. Not only was I surprised to see that in just a few short weeks tiny buds were showing on the tree I had selected to photograph every month, but birds were fluttering in and out of the branches. I went back to the window and watched them awhile, talking a few more shots. Then I spotted the squirrel. Out came the camera again. He seemed happy to have a place to play. Then I looked at the tree again. I mean really looked at it. I compared the photographs from last month to the new ones. Yep there were changes. Just little ones. Tiny buds are opening, and soon they will turn into leaves. I will look forward to see the changes April brings, and see what sighs the ever changing wheel of the year bring.

Walk with the animals

After lunch yesterday we took my grandson to the zoo. At nine months old he still doesn't focus on many of the animals, but it was such a beautiful day (almost 80 degrees in February!) we wanted to enjoy it..Come along as I show you some of the animals.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream

Today I took a walk back in time. We had lunch at Doumars barbecue Located in Norfolk VA. This is home to one of the few places where you can still get curb service. For those of you living in a part of the country that offers Sonic Burgers please don't be confused. I am talking about real service. The kind where a waitress comes to the car and takes your order. These women come from a time warp, back in the day where you tell them what you and they remember it. No pen and paper, no touch cash register to type it on. They actually listen to what you say the first time and bring it out to you on a tray. They offer great food at a really low price. You can still get a cheese burger all the way for $1.70. The chocolate shakes are a real chocolate and served in a frosted glass. These are not just any ole milk shakes, but the kind that is so thick you have to eat it with a spoon. I've downloaded a few pictures of how it looks today but be sure and visit the web site for a bit of history and some pictures of how it looked when it was first built. To peek your interest, I bet you will be surprised to find that Abe Doumar invented the first ice cream cone, and that Doumars has been around since 1907
