Super Glue and Band Aids

I swear when it rains it pours. On top of not getting enough done on Tues.. I spent the remainder of the evening in the ER. I think I have mentioned how I keep my grandson at night for my daughter while she works. Well now that I have moved I have been bringing him over to my house to sleep on the nights she works late. Most evenings she isn't off until 2 a.m. and I just can not keep my self awake that long. I don't want to wake up and have to go home that time of night and it is crazy for her to wake the baby up and take him home so he just stays over. Anyway my daughter dropped him off to me and no sooner had she left than he wanted to get down and play. I was trying my best to get the last of the stuff up I had sitting in the floor, but unknown to anyone something had broken and was just under the edge of the couch. I turned my back for one second to put a few things up higher when the grandson pulled up and started walking along the edge of the couch. Yep you guessed it. His foot found the broken glass. He started sreaming, and I grabbed him up to find blood gushing out of his heel. I ran for the bathroom sink and knew as soon as I saw his foot he would need stitches. I grabbed a clean cloth and took off down to my daughters to catch her before she left for work. His grandpa who lives next door heard him crying as we came up the stairs and the three of us took off to ER where we spent the next THREE hours waiting to be seen. Now tell me have you ever spent three hours with an eleven month old in your lap trying to keep pressure on a cut. Let me tell you it wasn't easy. Finally they took us back to a room and a DR. looked at his foot. She said it didn't need stitches after all. (I thought to myself well geeze I guess not, spider webs have formed on it now cause we have waited here all damn night). They cleaned his foot and used glue on it to seal the skin back together. Baby was fine, but I was upset. I felt so bad that he had been hurt at my house. I hate having everything out of place. It drives me completely nuts when things are not in balance in my life. There are just not enough hours in the day for me to get things done. I have only had one day off since the move, and I just can't seem to get organized. To top it off we are having our grand opening at the pet store I work at this weekend so we have been running around in circles there trying to get that in order. I'm tired, I'm irritable and I want NORMAL!!

Clearing Away Some Boxes

Today has been one of those days! I started off my morning on the wrong foot, so I should have known it was not going to be a productive day. I had to go to the bank first thing this morning and put some cash back into our account so I could get a rent check in to the office. Now rent is not due until the first and we have until the third of each month to pay it, but for some crazy reason only known to the idiots who work in the office they told us that we needed to pay the first months rent in advance since we moved in early. Never mind that we paid a full months rent as a deposit plus another two hundred dollars for the remainder of April. They want May also. Well I told them I didn't have it until my paycheck cleared the bank last Friday. I had to work yesterday during the same hours that the office was open, so today was the first chance I had to get to the bank and office. I also had planned to go to the post office today to pick up the key to our mail box. Not a problem except that the post office is in the same center as the bank. That still isn't a big deal, except that I wanted to make sure that I had the money in the account BEFORE I handed the office a check, so I knew it would mean a double trip there. Ok, so I deposit the money jump back in the car, only to sit through the same traffic light THREE times before I could get out of the center, I swear the lights around here only stay green for about 45 seconds. It drives me nuts. Anyway I get back to our complex, pull up to the office, go to the door, and wouldn't you know it. There is a note saying. CLOSED FOR THE DAY. I was so mad. I had one stupid bill that needed to go out today and no stamps (I had planned on mailing it when I got the key). So not only did I not pay my rent or get my mail, I still had to make the second trip back up to the same center I had just left to get a stamp, and mail off my bill. GRRRRRR.

After that I have spent most of the day clearing a path in my house. I can't believe I have so much JUNK. I know about 3/4 of it either needs to be stored away or thrown away, but I don't have the time or energy to do either. Nothing ever seems to fit back the way it was when I move, so instead of just hanging things up or sitting them out I make about a hundred piles, throw away the boxes and then try and make some kind of sense out of where to put things. I know I have got a lot done today but looking at it, it doesn't seem that way. I seem to be having one of those days where the harder I work the more behind I get. Oh well at lest I know when it is all put away it is MINE, no one is going to bother it or move it and I can relax. As for my daughter her apartment is looking good. She has it fixed up nice, and I am proud for her. Once things settle down a bit I will post some pictures of both places.

Where are the trees?

I came home for lunch today only to find the entrance to the parking lot blocked off by huge tree branches. It seems the complex owners have hired someone to come in and trim the trees. Now I don't mind trimming. It is the cutting down that bothers me. These are huge trees. They have thinned them down so much that I worry what will become of the birds and squirrels. I love feeding the wildlife, and just this morning I had an early visitor. When I opened my blinds there on the patio was a squirrel. When he saw me he jumped onto the screen of the patio door as if to say. Hey where is my breakfast. I use to feed to squirels at my old apartment and was so happy to see some here. I just hope he stays around. Darn tree cutters!!

Sore Bones and Tired Muscles

Oh I have muscles I forgot about. I don't think there is a bone in my body that doesn't hurt. Things are coming along though. I didn't get much unpacked today, because my hubby and I took a few hours off to go to my mom's house. I had some pictures out there that I want to hang, and several odds and ends that are in her shed. A lot of it I can't get until one day when my ex has time to go with me since we don't have a car that they will fit in, but it's things that don't need to come home right away. I spend the afternoon doing laundry. The one downside of this apartment complex is there is no washer in dryer in them. I hate public laundry mats, but will make do. Tonight I am watching my grandson while my daughter works.

Rain Rain Go Away

Well the rain managed to hold off long enough to finally get everything moved. I am tired., but glad it is all finished. Now comes the hard part. Getting it unpacked and finding a home for it. That is what I dread. We came out of a three bedroom one and half bath townhouse that had both a living room dinning room and a den, and have gone into a two bedroom one bath smaller living room and dinning area. Even the bedrooms are smaller. I have three bookshelves that I am uncertain of where to try and put, but at lest things are there and it is MINE. I can unpack my books, and my crafts and finally get back into the things I love. I found my two favorite Goddess figurines and have them set out in the bedroom already. I feel like a kid at Christmas opening things I haven't seen in several months. I have been giving the phone second thoughts. I originally thought I would just wait and have everything hooked up at once since our local cable company does a package deal, but I think I will call on Monday and see if I can't get one on in a few days. With the way my hubby and I get paid we have to wait about a week and a half for cable. This way I can at lest get on the computer when I have time.
Well it is back to the boxes for now..

Delays

Well the excitement from this morning is short lived. The move is a bit on hold due to bad weather. The furniture is in, but all the boxes that are in the ex-hubbies house are still there. It looks like it is suppose to rain most of the day today and tomorrow so it will probably be Sunday before we get everything out of here. I still have some things over at my moms house and I think my ex is going to go then and help me get it over here. I have to work the next weekend and I want it all in so I can sort through and feel like I am "home".
Also we have a delay on getting my computer back on line. It will be about a week and half before the cable can be turned on. I am not doing a phone separately but taking a "package deal". That means I will have to use the ex-s computer to check mail and/or blog. I hate delays!

Moving Day!!

Yippee!! Moving Day is finally here. I will be off line a few days, but don't worry I will be back!

Good Grief

Good Grief, I am turning into my mother.
Do you remember as a kid swearing you would never be like mom. I know I did and in-spite of how hard I try, the older I get the more I become just like her. My mom is one of those annoying people that will buy something and return it. Not just once in awhile but everything time she buys something. She drives me crazy doing it, she drives the sales people crazy, and she wears herself out shopping only to turn around and shop some more. I use to laugh about it because she would buy one thing, get home with it and then decide she really didn't like it. Back to the store it would go. This wasn't so terrible, everyone does this once in awhile. I have noticed lately though that she buys several things because she can not make up her mind. She will take them home, once there she will pick one thing and take the rest back. I on the other hand buy a lot of second hand things, and usually plan ahead before I buy something new. I don't often buy on impulse and very rarely return anything I buy. That is why I had to laugh at myself tonight when I turned into my mother.
Remember a few days ago I mentioned how I had bought a microwave stand. Well after I got home and started thinking about it (and how much I paid for it) I decided I really didn't need it. Tonight I decided to take it back. My husband is working every night until midnight so my daughter came with me because it was heavy and I couldn't carry it by myself. It is hard enough to shop with an 11 month old, much less return tings but we drove over to the Target, found a parking spot and a cart, got it loaded and into the store. There was a long line and we got in it and waited. As I was standing there I kept looking at the picture on the box. I looked at my daughter, she looked at me. Hmmmm I thought to myself. I really do like this stand, and I do need it. I said to my daughter. I changed my mind. I am going to keep it. She looked at me like I had two heads, we got out of line and went back to the car. She told me as we were leaving the store. "Mom, you are turning into grandma"
My mom would be proud.

Something fun

Decorating Dreams

Ok, it's bad enough that I watch HGTV for hours on end dreaming about how I want to decorate. Today I had to go and torment myself even further by shopping with my daughter. First stop was Bed Bath and Beyond where my daughter found a wonderful stripe shower curtain for the bathroom. As we were leaving we took a peak at the wall art where she found this to go with it.
The photo shown came off the website and does not do justice to the picture itself. It is a blend of aqua, blues and greens, which are the colors in the shower curtain.
She left happy and we headed next door to Target where she bought a set of cookware and a toaster. I found a new microwave stand which will match the old wooden cupboard I have in the dining room. It has a drawer in the middle plus an under cabinet. The top is butcher block that is the same color as my table top. I really didn't have to have a stand but I wanted to free up some counter space and it gives me an extra drawer for potholders and that type of things. The kitchen here only has two small drawers. Anyway I'm happy. There is only one small problem.
Between the two stores I came to the conclusion that everything I have packed away in boxes should just be tossed in the trash. My things are old and ugly and out of style..Sigh...
I tend to be very eclectic in what I buy and I have a jumble of this and that. Plus I made a big mistake a few years ago and got a blue living room suite. Blue is a very hard color to match with today's fashions. I hope to slowly buy some new things and when I do the thrift store shoppers will be happy.

Taking a peek

Well it's official (I hope). My hubby and I went to the apartment office today and paid our deposit and got the address where we will be living.. We are in apartment H. I wasn't sure if that stood for Hell or Happy. I am happy but I'm a bit disappointed that they didn't have an opening on the level we wanted. I am trying to have a positive out look,. but I am still pouting a little. The complex we are in has tri-level units. For those of you who are not sure what that is, here is how it works. Everyone has a private entrance, and there are twelve apartments in each building. However the building is divided into two sides. If you are standing on the sidewalk you have to go down 5 steps to apartment A & B. or Up 5 steps to C & D, and then up about 10 more steps to get to E & F
That is side one..
The other side works the same way.
G & H is down five, I & J is up five and K & L is the top floor. I hope all that makes sense.
Anyway my complaint is that I am one of the units that you go down the five steps. It just reminds me of a basement. It is not as open to street and I feel like I am going to be in a hole.
Thankfully the back yard is level and we will have a large dining room window next to a sliding glass door and so I can step out onto my patio and then yard.
I am just not happy with the front which is where my bedroom windows will be. I am one of those people that thrive on natural light. I was hoping to get the middle unit. That is the level my daughter is on. I like the fact that she can hear anyone coming past the door, and also her balcony is private. She can step out onto a deck of her own instead of a concrete slab with dirt that anyone walking by can stand on..
I suppose I will get use to it though and I am thankful that I will have my own home again, so I try to smile.
On the bright side, I was able to get a peek at the apartment this evening. Maintenance was working in it and they let me in. It looks ok, the cabinets are pretty shabby but all of them in this complex seem to be old. I will have new counters and new carpet and fresh paint. That at lest is a bright spot. I just keep repeating one more week one more week one more week.

Good News

We found out today that we finally got approved for our own apartment. Due to a few credit glitches we had to have a co-signer and my ex is going to help us out with that. Yes, it's a strange arrangement, not many people get along well enough with a ex spouse to have them help each other out but him and I are really close and probably get along better now than when we were married. I will miss my daughter (and her dad) but I am not going far. We are only moving over one building. We will have about a hundred yards between us. Not enough to feel far away yet far enough away that each of us will feel a bit more independent. My daughter needs to have more freedom, and the ex is happy to get his extra bedroom back. We have been using it as a make shift storage room. I'm just thrilled that I can finally unpack all my things!!

While out thrift store shopping yesterday I found two more to add to my little family.

In The Yard

While in VA. Beach today I stopped by my mom's. I hadn't been over there for a few weeks, and during the time I had been away spring has sprung. The azalea bushes and the Phlox caught my eye the mintue we pulled in the drive.
I love this flower and it reminds of two special ladies. My friend Sharon and her mom Doris. This patch is from original cuttings that Doris had in her yard. When Doris passed away the phlox was forgotten for many years. Life went on and Sharon moved away. One year while visiting my ex and I she went by her mom's old house. The phlox was in bloom so she went to the door and ask the new home owner if she could have some of it. She divided it with me. I planted some and gave my mom some. Both Sharon's and mine died not long after being transplanted, but my mom's thrived and has come back every year.
While taking pictures of it I happened to look over in the corner of the front yard and saw this group of clay critters.
They made me smile and I hope they make you smile too.

A day in court

My daughter had to go to court today on the speeding ticket she was given a few weeks ago. The judge reduced the charge but didn't dismiss the ticket. FIVE other people had been given a ticket on the same street by the same officer. It seems that they were also sited for speeding. When my daughter was given her ticket the officer said she was going 40..She admitted she was but the speed sign said 35. The cop said it was 25. In each of the other cases the people had the same thing happen. All the judge ask the officer was his radar gun calibrated. He said yes. End of story. It just seems fishy to me that everyone ticketed had the same story, and yet the judge sided with the cop. I personally think he was just trying to get his quota of tickets for the month. This is how cops get a bad name. I know they work hard, but I also know there are bad cops out there. I tend to think this man might be one of them. If she had been the only one who was fighting the ticket I wouldn't open my mouth, but FIVE people...All I can say is hmmmmmm
Anyway what this means for the daughter is she will lose her license. We are not sure yet. The letter will come from DMV. In the mean time no one is happy. The apartment complex is still jerking us around about our own unit. MAYBE we will hear something today. They CLAIM they can get us in, they just don't know how to fix the paper work so that it reads correctly in case the fair housing people check in on them. It sounds to me like they need to calibrate there office staff. Maybe they are in cahoots with the cop..Sounds dirty to me..

Smelly dinner

I just want to say thank you to the redneck white trash family that was sitting next to us tonight at the local Golden Corral for spoiling my dinner. The loud obnoxious talk about farts and other gross topics really added to my evening..GROSS
Also my hubby enjoyed seeing one of the young ladies boobs falling halfway out of her low cut blouse. I personal loved her toes which she was showing because she had kicked her shoes off under the table.
Can you tell we had a great night?
Next time I will drive through taco bell and just call it a night.
By the way, this was not a table full of kids. This was six adults in there 30's to 40's..

I'm depressed. It seems that for every step I take forward I take two backwards.
We have been trying for over two weeks now to get an approval to move into an apartment in the same complex as my daughter. Unfortunately our credit sucks. This is causing problems. We have someone willing to co-sign and we thought that everything was a go, only to find out today they have to check and see if they can accept a co-signer..
I'm tired, my soul is tired. I just want NORMAL in my life. I can only take so much I want to kick and cry and throw a complete temper tantrum. I'm mad at the entire world.
Life pretty much sucks.

Monday Memories: Did I ever tell you about The Time I Spent The Night In A Cave

I found this idea on another website and thought I would use it on my blog today. . Doing a memory sounds like fun. Even though I am a little late getting it in since the clock says it is really Tuesday already I thought it might be fun so I am going to give it a try.


About ten years ago when I was still married to my ex, I spent the night in a cave with 100 kids. Yep you read it right. A Cave! This is how it happened. My ex was teaching NJROTC at the time in Knoxville TN. Part of the job was taking the kids on field trips. The best I remember this trip was probably to learn survival. I am sure though that I am the only one who worried if I would survive. Our group actually only consisted of about 20 kids, but we had both boys and girls. We went toThe Lost Sea Which is a cavern in Sweetwater, Tennessee. It is a beautiful cave, and is listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's largest underground lake. We took what is called "The Wild Tour" which took us into parts of the cave that is not open to the general public. It had very narrow passage ways and tiny openings. It was a lot of fun, and the best part was we spent the night. The cave itself was very muddy and damp. It wouldn't have been so bad, but the night that we were there so were the boy scouts. Yep, about 100 of them for a jamboreee. Here we were with about 8 high school girls and the rest was boys. Needless to say I did not get any sleep that night.

Today was one of those beautiful days where you wanted to spend the day outside. My hubby and I did just that, starting the day off by driving up to Williamsburg. Instead of going to the Colonial area where I had originally thought about going we decided to take the Colonial Parkway. It is a lovely wooded road that goes from Yorktown to Jamestown. Along the way you will find the James River. There are several places that you can pull off so we stopped and I took a few pictures.

Later in the day we met up with family for a picnic at the park.



We ended the day watching the ducks swim on the water.



I am so glad spring has finally arrived.
