So What Do You Think?

Out of all the blogs I read, I haven't seen anyone mention the H1N1 flu. Are you worried about it? Do you plan on taking the vaccine?
It seems to be the hot topic in our area, and we are currently out of the vaccine. My sister who is a nurse did find a dose for my daughter who is 6 months pregnant, so she took the shot. We were really torn about it, but from all the news reports the flu is very very dangerous for pregnant woman and the majority of them who contact it have a high chance of both the baby and them-self dying. That is a lot more frightening than the shot.
The schools here were lining up kids for the shot last week, but my grandson had a fever from a cold and sinus infection and no one seemed to know if it was safe for him to take the vaccine. At his age he has to have the mist and will need it in two doses. By the time he was feeling better and my daughter had made plans to go get it for him they had ran out. It looks like it may be several weeks yet before our area has it back in.
I don't mind admitting, I'm a bit nervous. I don't want my grandbaby getting sick.

So what is the talk around your town?

Patty;
Great question. Yeah, I'm a medical transcriptionist and I'm typing up this thing like mad. It's widespread all over the US now. Older folks, not to worry so much, younger ones--kind of concerning. It's a good thing he didn't get the shot when he was feeling poorly. He would have sent his immune system into a tizzy. When my son was 17, he got the seasonal flu and he went back to school and work much too soon and kept getting sicker, ended up having seizures with meningitis and we were in the hospital for a week with him. Since then, we always get the flu shot. I know people gripe about the flu shot giving them the flu--it doesn't. It sometimes makes you feel bad for a few hours about 6 hours after taking it, as if you have a very mild flu, then you wake up the next day just fine. Only people who get the flu from the shot, had the flu before they got the shot. It's good for your immune system to be introduced to these things. I don't want my first exposure to swine flu be from having it. I'd rather it be from a shot. It's worth it not to get the complications. I hope they get enough vaccine out there. I'm 47, but I'm getting it. Every time I get the flu, I get bronchitis for months. No more!

Oh yes, it's very much in the news over here and the shots have just become available. I have never had a flu shot in my life and don't plan on getting this one either...they just don't know enough about this shot, what the long term effects will be. I know millions of people get the flu shot...I'm just not one of them! lol xoxo

Every year my company offers us flu shots which are pretty important for our EMTs, Paramedics, and Chair Car Van Drivers to get as they constantly have contact with sick people. This year we're still getting the traditional shots (they offer them to dispatchers and office personnel also) but as for the H1N1 shots, those are going to be limited to road personnel only as there is such a limited supply. Rumor has it if there are any left then office personnel can get the shot, too.

I believe that the State of Connecticut has run into the same problem that a lot of others have in that their supplies are very low and they don't know when they're going to get more in.

The thing that gets me, is that they've known about this flu now since March or April and yet they still couldn't come up with enough vaccines? Typical bureaucracy I guess.

I'm not overly concerned about the H1N1 flu. My doctor doesn't have the seasonal vacine or the H1N1 vacine, so I won't be getting a flu shot (I've never had one.) My Dad is 96 and I was hoping I could at least get him a seasonal flu shot - maybe they will get some more vacine in.

I think people with children should be more concerned about this flu. A six year old girl in a neighboring county died from the H1N1 flu a few weeks ago.

Yes, I am concerned -- less so than if I were in the classroom. I did get the regular shot a few weeks ago, but we're still waiting for the H1N1. Hopefully the grand daughter will get hers soon.

It is scary, Patty, especially for kids and pregnant women. You have good right to worry about your daughter and your grandson.

Here--not too much is being said, but we are in a more rural area and I'm sure it is worse in urban areas.

Just be careful and wash your hands constantly.
Hugs,
Betsy

Three Little Witches

One little, two little, three little witches
Fly over haystacks and fly over ditches
Fly over moonbeams without any hitches
Hey, it's Halloween night.
One little, two little, three little witches
Fly over barb wire and tore their britches
Had to go home and get some stitches
Hey, it's Halloween night!! hehe

Happy Halloween dear Patty:-) xoxo

It's interesting that you post this, Autumn. I gues we are all worried about it, but siply forget to post. Here in Brazil it took huge dimensions in many states, with deaths, specially among small children and pregnat women. All the schools are taking precautions, like washing hands in the beginning of the class and after recess time, students don't share glasses and other personal articles (oh well this one is valid for any time, of course, but you know how kids are when togther), they even postponed the return from vacations to avoid possible contamination due to trips to dangerous places, and any kid that has a running nose or starts getting a bit sick is sent back home and can only be back after showing a medical declaration stating he's okay. In times of war... Lucas is very well oriented, and does everything needed to try to avoid contact with this disease. Of course, we're worried, but there's nothing more we can do, the vaccines didn't get here yet *sigh* But seems like it's under control by now - hope so!

Wish you a blessed Smahain and a fun halloween with your lovely kids, may he keep his health!

The girls will be getting the h1n1 vaccine as their pediatrician office (who I trust) recommends it. I usually dont even other with a flu shot so odds are I wont get it myself.

Blessings and Joyous Samhain
