Thinking Ahead

If you have been following along with this blog at all you now know I love anything to do with the American Civil War. Since my recent trip to Gettysburg PA. I have become even more fascinated with it, so you can imagine how excited I was when I learned of a place right here in my own area that features 422 acres including four museums, four antebellum homes, living history venues, and shopping and dining facilities. Costumed interpreters conduct of military and civilian life of the Civil War era. Historians conduct guided tours of the battlefield and plantation homes daily.
I plan to go to Pamplin Historical Park on Sunday. You know I will have lots of photos and stories to tell, so come back to hear all about it.

Back in April of 2000 my cousin and I did a battlefield vacation and we actually went to Pamplin Park as part of it. I really liked the place and one of my favorite parts was that when you went through the museum you were assigned a soldier from the war then at the end of the war you found out what his fate was.

There was a ton of history there and you learn a lot, as well as get a real feel for what the soldiers went through during the War. It really gives you more of an appreciation of the way things were back then.

That week spent exploring Manassas, Fredericksburg, Charlottesville, Cold Harbor, Petersburg, the Wildnerness, Antietam, and Gettysburg was one of the best vacations I've ever had! I'd go again in a heartbeat!
