Wow! Both are amazing shots and perfect for the dark theme :) I really love his dark shadow walking up the stairs into the blue horizon.
To me the first picture you posted it looks like and ending of movie someone walking off.

Though both are good I really like the first one. It has personality and tells a story. Great composition. The complete dark contrasts well with the light of the sky and clouds.

THose are marvellous examples of the genre.
Love that..my sister lives outside of Richmond and most of my family are civil war buffs..One of my relatives lost her son in the Civil War and she wrote letters talking about him coming to visit her in spirit to let her know that he was dead. It was hard to find out what happened to folks then..also had a couple of distant relatives burned as witches in Salem...just your average family.
