Chit Chat

Seven years ago I was working at a local mall at the customer service booth and a lady who I only knew by sight was working at the Santa booth a feet away taking photos of the kids as they would sit in his lap. She seemed real sweet and we would say hello everyday, but didn't really know each other. When spring came and the Easter bunny arrived there she was again, and once again we would wave and say hello. A few months later I was shopping at a local metaphysical shop for the first time. I was browsing the book section when I over heard the clerk talking to another customer about the Goddess Demeter. I was new to anything Pagan/Wiccan at this time so I edged a little closer to listen. Much to my surprise the clerk was none other than the girl from the mall. We talked a few minutes and I bought the book she suggested and left. That same night my husband and I had made plans to attend a local drum circle. When we arrived there was this lady again. It seemed like we were destined to keep running into each other. A few months later we both joined the same women's group and our friendship grew closer. We lived a few minutes apart so we would ride together to events that our group had. We had both been in the group about a year when our group was going to do a ritual to honor one of our female ancestor'. The idea was to bring a photo of one of the women in our family that we wanted to honor Neither of us had talked much about our family other than the usual chit chat, so I knew nothing about her heritage or where her family came from. When it came time to go that day I causually asked her who she was bringing a photo of.
My grandmother P...she replied. Your kidding I said...I have a picture of my grandmother p.....Huh she said...We looked at the photos and they were two different women yet both had the same last name. How do you spell P..... I ask. She told me and I replied that I did too. For privacy reasons I will not reveal the name here but I will tell you that is not a very common name. Anyway when my friend and I started comparing notes we realized that her grandmother husband and my grandmothers husband were somehow connected. The best we can tell her and I are about 4th or 5th cousins. Now I know that sounds pretty distant but we claimed each other instantly as cousins.
Our friendship has continued to blossem over the years and even when I dropped out of the womens group we stayed in touch.
Last night I had to say goodbye to her. She is leaving the state this weekend. Her husband has a new job and I wish her well. Be blessed my friend! I miss you already

It certainly was meant for you two to meet and become friends...imagine even finding out that you are distantly related!! Fate is funny that way:-) I know you will miss her, it's not often we have friends with so much of the same interests. Wonderful picture of the two of you! xox
