I am so stupid

I can't believe I am so stupid. I deleted all of my photos and documents off my computer. Gone vanished cleaned out. Awhile back our computer was acting up so we created a fake me and put everything on that side of the computer. When we got the problem fixed I stopped using that account. Then I noticed a lot of things loaded double, so we decided today to delete the other me...Well, it seems that me is me and now it is all gone. I emptied the recycle bin with out giving it a second thought. I am sooooo upset. There is no way to get them back. I tried everything. We even went back a month and tried to do a system recovery. Make the computer think it had not trashed everything. No luck I have cried and cried. It is Four years of family photos. Maybe 1/4 of them I had back up on disk. I know, I know, always back up on disk, but I'm lazy, I kept meaning to, I just never got around to it. Now they are gone. Folks, go NOW, buy some disk if you don't have any, get off the Internet and spend your day backing up files. Don't let this happen to you. All of my grand babies photos are gone.

*Update*

I remembered I loaded photos onto blogger. So everything here I have recovered by saving them one by one. Also I remembered that I have accounts with facebook, and myspace, and thank goodness I have loaded somethings on yahoo, one true media, and photobucket.
This gives me back hundreds of photos, but not all of them. Not precious moments that can not be recaptured. I think I know how someone must feel when they lose everything in a fire of natural disaster. I don't give a damn about anything on the computer but my photos and my documents.
I NEED THOSE. I had years of searching for my family tree, Somethings are on a family tree site, but not all...BACK UP FILES, BACK UP FILES, BACK UP FILES.....

*HUGS!* Oh no!

Michael and I had a server crash a couple years ago and lost so much information. It was really devastating though we were able to recover some of it because of backups. Nothing beats a hardcopy though! Now we run two servers and backup information on both every day (so if one of our computers dies and a server dies we still have that information.) On top of that we burn our new photos to cd on the second week of every month.

*Hugs again* I totally feel you pain, I am so sorry you lost so much information!

oh patty! my sympathies, i have just lost 2 months worth of 'saved stuff'-including loads of photos not as bad as your loss but still bad enough. I too have gone through blogger and photobucket etc and re-saved what i can, but it doesnt cover everything. so yes, everyone should back up all the time.

I've lost things in the past and it's such a helpless feeling. Now I have a separate hard drive that I back up to, and am looking into an online backup system.

By the way, if you do back up to disks, be sure to keep a set somehwere outside of your home if possible. In case of fire, they could be lost along with the computer. When it comes to photos and those once in a lifetime moments, you just can't be too cautious!

Science For Kids

It is possible to get it all back! Call a computer repair comany there are guys who can recover things from hard drives even when they have been "erased" because in reality they are not until the computer writes over them again.

Ooh, Autumn, I'm so sorry!!! It upset me only by reading your post Putz... Wish I could do anything to help you on this. What a damnit thing to happen! Have you tried what Tracy suggested, to call a computer repair company? Maybe it could work? At least you could get back some of them, but I know it's not comforting... You know, I also have many Lucas' photos here at my office computer. I'll follow your advice and back them up on a disk.
My sweetet kisses to you.

I don't know if this will help you. But I do know my husband has recovered files of mine that were lost. He downloaded some free program from the net and got them back. So I suggest you google "how to recover deleted files" and maybe you can get them back. Hope this helps. Love Hugs and Blessings.

I know. I lost many of mine with the computer crash. I'm okay with the ones I scanned from photos - I can scan them again but the digitals? Gone, I'm afraid.

At least I have a few on Blogspot.
