A New Cookbook

My mom gave my daughter a cookbook today. The women who put it together are from her church. Mom has been going to this church forever and most of these women have known each other for years. I am really surprised they are giving up the "secrets" but some of them are getting old and I guess maybe they think it is time to pass on what they know to a younger generation. I stopped going to church a long time ago but I have to admit that nothing can beat a church cookbook, or a church supper. I remember as a child having lunch after the church service and everything was always so yummy. Table after table of everything from fried chicken to home made pies and cakes. It seemed like there was always enough food to feed an army and wow did those women know how to cook. So when I came home from work and found out the book was from the church my first thought was Hey I want a copy. I collect a lot of recipe books. I get them on the off chance that someday I might cook something from one of them. I really don’t know why I bother because I don't have time to plan big meals now days. I did a lot of "country cooking" when my kids were young but now I collect the books “just in case”. Just in case what, I am not sure. Just in case someday I meet a millionaire and he takes me away from my crazy life and buys me a big house and can hire a woman to assist me. Or maybe my mom invites her church ladies over YIKES. Or maybe just in case I hit the lottery, and have nothing better to do with my days but cook. Oh well, if the "just in case" ever happens I will let you know because right now I don’t have a lot of time on my hands. Back in the "good ole days" when I was married to my ex I was a stay at home mom. I always made sure my house was clean and supper was on the table every night. Sadly as things with the marriage went down hill I lost touch with the domestic side of me. For several years I let the house go, and just threw something together for supper or better yet sent out for fast food. My life got crazy and no one ate together. The ex and I didn't bother because we were both spending too much time on the computer. We had two computers at the time and he would be chatting away in one room and me in the other. Being domestic somehow got put on the back burner. Now years later since that marriage has ended, and my heart and mind have begun to heal I find that I have started to get fussy about the house and want a hot meal on the table. Don't you know life always seems to throw things at us that way. I have remarried, I work, I help take care of my grandson, and I don't have time to plan meals like I use to. Oh well, at lest my daughter said we can share the book. As I get a chance I will post some of the recipes out of it to my blog. It has over 350 pages of wonderful mouth-watering things to eat.

I am a cookbook collector, too. I have so many of them, but rarely use them. They are nice to have, and I love the pictures ... they are so pretty. Nothing I every makes turns out like the pictures. I tend to cook whatever is easiest ... I am a lazy cook. Occasionally I get really adventurous, and get out a book and make something new. It is fun. Looking forward to seeing some of those recipes.
Take care, meow

I love cookbooks like that, just filled with the culinary wisdom of a whole community. I'd love just to hear some of the recipe titles, and any full recipes would be an extra bonus!

And you sound happy busy. You may not have as much time to cook, but the time that you do have will be much more appreciated. Or at least that's what I tell myself, as I start into a period of more working! ;-)
