Updating

Wow, I checked the date of my last post and realized it has been almost a month since I have updated. Is anyone still checking to see if I am alive ha ha

I really don't know where the days are going, but time seems to be flying by. I have to admit it has been a really long winter and I am so happy to see spring is finally arriving in my town.

I am finally feeling better after suffering a bad case of seasonal depression this year. I think it was just a variety of things that started before the holidays and just keep going.  You probably remember me losing a friend around the Christmas, and also making contact with someone from my past. Finding that person hurt me more than I realized and it has really shaken me to the core. Twelve years is a long time to hold old feelings, but they were there just under the surface and it took me awhile to deal with them again and put them where they belonged.
Of course becoming a grandmother again has been a positive thing, but somehow has left me feeling old. Sigh..I just don't know where the time has gone. It seems like I should still be the young mother and not the grandmother, but time did slip by and here I am.

Noah is growing like a weed and is keeping his mommy busy. Cody of course is growing right along with him and I can't believe he is going to be five in May.

My hubby and I spend some time together this past weekend and went on a day trip to Richmond VA to some of the Civil War battlefields. I will post some photos and tell you about them in my next post..

Baby Update

Little Noah is due to arrive any day now. If my daughter does not go into natural labor before this next Tues. the Dr will start to induce her by inserting a foley in her cervix. This will dialate her more and get her ready with some contractions. if that alone does not start the real labor then on Wed. morning they will put her in the hosptial and start her labor with drugs.
We are hoping she won't have him until then because everyone is trying to be off those days, and I have time off at the end of the week next week to be with her. Keep your fingers crossed. Also we are expecting more snow here, so say a little prayer that it misses us. It hasn't snowed in our area in ten years and now it is trying to come two weeks in a row. Sigh..
Anyway please keep Rebecca in your thoughts and prayers that we will have a safe and fast delivery, and that little Noah will be here soon

Baby update

My daughter is due on Feb. 13, but as of this week she has dilated 1 and the baby is head down and he has dropped. I suspect she wont make it another four weeks. Her first baby was born a week early, so we will see. The boyfriends mom gave her a very nice baby shower last weekend, so she is all set as far as things she needs to welcome him. I am posting a few photos so you can see the adorable cake and a few of the decorations. The little ducks on the cupcakes are chocolate aren't they cute! The little sweater in the last photo has a special story behind it. It belonged to my daughter's boyfriend and was made by his great grandmother for him. He wore it home from the hospital when he was born. His mom presented it to my daughter as a gift at the shower. She was very overwhelmed and had tears in her eyes as she gave it to her. I know that it held a special place in her heart and it must have been so hard for her to give it to my daughter. Especially since her son and my daughter are not married. Rebecca plans on letting Noah wear it home when he arrives.

The weekend in review

This is my three day weekend, and it is going by way to fast. I spent the first two days getting nothing done other than spending time with my daughter and grandson. Of course I always enjoy that but I swear I never seem to have enough "Me" time.

Today has found me still in my nightgown and it is almost 4 pm. I did do some laundry and picked up over the living room a bit, but other than that I have vegged.
In the mean time I am making Chicken and Dumplings for supper and plan on watching some TV
I can't believe that Thanksgiving is Thursday. We will have our meal with my mom this year. It is the first time she has cooked for the family since she had her heart attack almost 3 years ago. I already know that will be a busy day and I have to be at work on Friday at the crack of dawn. We open at FIVE AM
We are about to start longer hours at work and I really dread them. I hate to say it but I really do hate the holidays. I will be so happy when January arrives.

Oh the bright side Rebecca and I did sneak off Saturday night alone to watch "New Moon", which is the second movie in the Twilight series. If you haven't seen it yet I can recommend it. Especially if your a Twilight fan.
While there we got a chance to talk to some of the other people (we waited in line about a half hour) and I was surprised to find that several people saw the first movie but haven't read the books. Read the books folks, you will be glad you did.

Anyway we joined about 400 other fans for the 7 pm showing. The auditorium we were in holds 500 and it was almost full. This was just one of three in that theatre that were showing the movie. I must admit I really enjoyed it, and those sexy scenes where Jacob has off his shirt did get me to wishing I was 17 again.

The price of movies is ridiculous and I can see why so many people wait for the DVD.
At lest it was a movie that I could walk away from and feel like it had been worth the $11.00 price of admission. Of course we won't talk about the other $8.00 I had to spend on a hot dog and soda.
On the bright side we had stopped at the dollar tree for candy, so eat your heart out AMC I got one up on you ha ha.

Sunday found me back over at my daughters house. Someone she knows was moving and they gave her a dinning room table and chairs for free. Her boyfriend was suppose to go help her and her dad pick it up, and I was going to stay with my grandson, but the boyfriend showed his true colors once again and refused to go help her. Her dad and I picked it up and moved it. (My husband didn't come because he was being a pain in my butt too....A story for another day ha ha)
Anyway we got all of that taken care of and then Rebecca and I went for lunch with Cody and on to the toy store. I had promised him a toy because he had received a good report card from pre-K. From there a quick trip to the grocery store and then home. Needless to say my day was gone by then.

I vote we should have two day work weeks and five day weekends? Anyone else agree?

Halloween Fun

I hope everyone had a wonderful Halloween. I certainly did. I had intended to write a post in time for the big day, but it snuck up on me and now it has come and gone. I had to work today, but did manage to find time for a little "clowning around"

When I got off work I hurried over to my daughter's house so we could take my grandson out trick or treating. He had a wonderful time with the little boy next door. They are just one day apart in age so they really enjoyed going trick or treating this year

(My grandson is the one in the green hat)

My ex husband came by and gave out candy to the trick or treat kids while my daughter and I took out Cody. When we got home we all joined in the fun of giving away the candy.

Yeah Candy!!

Cody clowning around in my wig

Maybe he will be a famous make up artist some day

More on the grand kids

My grandson called me this morning to inform me that he has TWO days off from school. (He is in pre-K)
(I on the other hand have to work). I found it a bit sad that at the tender age of four he is already leading such a busy life that he is understanding the importance of having a weekend off. When did kids stop being kids and go to being so big? I swear they come out of the womb grown up now. When mine were young I was fortunate enough to be a stay at home mom. They didn't go to school until kindergarten. No wait I lied, They both did go to play school for three hours from 9-12 each day. When they were four. Cody goes from 8:30 until 4:20 counting bus time When mine were little, I kept them little, we played house and cars and trucks and dolls and all the innocent things that kids use to play. Now with almost all mom's working kids don't get the luxury of being kids. Even the schools push them hard. Already in pre-k Cody is learning to use a computer to do his work.  Of course he has know how to use a mouse since he was big enough to sit in my lap and he does already play computer games and loves the old netindo  his mom has. (He is smarter than me) I know his mind is expanding. He is smart, he is happy, and healthy and will embrace much more in his life than his mom did or I did. Still he is four? What happened to my baby?
Sigh

Out of the mouth of babes

I have to share with you something funny that my grandson said.

As you all know my daughter is expecting another boy. Everyone in the family was hoping for a girl (we all are excited that its a boy now that it is settling in). Anyway even my grandson wanted a baby sister, so when his mom and I told him it was a brother it took him a few minutes to be ok with it.
To help him along in his line of thinking I told him that a baby brother would be fun because when the baby got bigger we could all go to Gettysburg together (My grandson loves this place almost as much as I do).
I went on to tell him how much fun it would be to run and play in the fields and that he could show him all the big cannons and tell him about the soldiers.
He thought about this a minute and then said to me

"ok, but my brother will be little so he can't sleep on the top bunk (we had bunk beds when we took him up there last spring).
So I (meaning himself) can sleep on the top with mommy and my brother can sleep on the bottom with you(meaning me)."

Ok I told him that is fine, the baby can sleep with me on he bottom..

"ok momo (he says) but you have to hold my baby really really tight, because there might be a ghost outside the window"

DON'T YOU LOVE IT!! Can you tell who's grand-kid he is *big smile*

Snips and Snails

Do you think it would be really really wrong of me to put a pink dress on my new grandson when he is born?  (can you tell I want a girl)
Sigh!

On the serious side, I do have to admit I am disappointed.  I know when all is said and done and Noah gets here it really won't matter. I am going to love and spoil this child, and think of him as my own, but I would have really loved to have a little girl to dress up and play with. I feel like I have always been cheated out of the chance to be a girly girl. My granddaughter is so far away. Girls just have more to choose from when it comes to clothes and accessories than a boy does.
Also Rebecca had her heart set on a girl this time. It really hurt me to see the look on her face when they told us it was a boy. She had not planned this baby, and really did not want it. She has had one emotional up and down after another in the last 4 1/2 months, and had really just started to accept the idea of a baby and started to get a bit excited at the thought it might be a girl and then boom. The air was just let out of her balloon.  I tired to cheer her up and took her shopping, but the both of us were walked around going..DUH...
She has three big totes of baby clothes left over from Cody so she really doesn't need a thing. Let's face it, a blue sleeper is still just a blue sleeper. We left the store empty handed. Sigh.

Oh well at lest she won't have to spend much money, and the boys can share a room. That part will be good for my husband and I since I will probably never live in anything bigger than a two bedroom apt. I can fix up the extra room in a boys theme for them, where as if I had a girl I would have had to paint and decorate with a neutral color and curtains.  Also I like the way Cody and Noah sound together, it slips off the tongue easy..
But maybe I can dress them both up as a princess, just once..At Halloween..Ok..Just once!

Rocks In My Head, Bears In My Heart

Sorry I don't know how to remove the music from the slide show at the end of this post. It seems to be built in to the program I used. Please turn off your speakers before you click to watch

After a good night's sleep our second day in Gettysburg got off to a little better start. We headed out to tour more of the battlefield. One of my favorite places is the famous Devil's Den.
If you know any of the history of Gettysburg then you probably already know that
the photo below is a famous one.

It is the Body of a Confederate sharpshooter, behind famous shooting blind at Devil's Den. (Taken on July 6 or July 7, 1863, by Alexander Gardner.)
It is now believed that the photo was staged for dramatic effect with a body recovered elsewhere.

This photo is how the area looks today and the photos below show my grandson playing on the huge rocks.

After playing here awhile we went a few miles south of town to The Boyd's Bear Factory

This video is long, but if you take time to view it I am sure you will enjoy the shop. As you can see they sell more than just bears.
My grandson made a dog while we were there (see video) and he named him Gettysburg..
That little stuffed dog has now gone everywhere with us..
Enjoy watching the slide show and I will continue more of what we did in my next post.
