Songs of heart break

I havent played a meme in a long time but today while visiting my friend Linda I saw
This Heart Break Song meme. The idea is to post a song/lyrics to your favorite heart break song (I think if I understood right)
Anyway this song came to mind.
It's call What Might Have Been and is sung by Little Texas
I love the words behind the song, because I think we all have someone in our life that we think about...just once in awhile...at lest I know I do...I will always wonder..

What Might Have Been

Sure I think about you now and then
But it's been a long long time
I've got a good life now I've moved on
So when you cross my mind
I try not to think about
What might have been
'Cause that was then
And we have taken different roads
We can't go back again
There's no use giving in
And there's no way to know
What might have been
We could sit and talk about this all night long
And wonder why we didn't last
Yes they might be the best days
We will ever know
But we'll have to leave them in the past
So try not to think about
What might have been
'Cause that was then
And we have taken different roads
We can't go back again
There's no use giving in
And there's no way to know
What might have been
That same old look in your eyes
It's a beautiful night
I'm so tempted to stay
But too much time has gone by
We should just say goodbye
And turn and walk away
And try not to think about
What might have been
'Cause that was then
And we have taken different roads
We can't go back again
There's no use giving in
And there's no way to know
What might have been
No we'll never know
What might have been

Thursday Thoughts

I was probably about 13 so it must have been around 1967 It was summer and we had gone to Heard Co. GA. to see grandma and grandpa. As usual when we were their all the Aunts, Uncles and cousins came. This particular year grandpa had planted peppers on the land just up the road from the house. It was harvest day and everyone was in the fields picking the peppers. Of course us kids had to help too, but like kids anywhere we wanted to play not pick.
Off in a a corner by themselves were some watermelons. I can't remember who's idea it was to bust the first melon, but when we discovered it wasn't ripe we busted another, and another, and another. Now I was a city kid so I had no way of knowing if those mellows were green or red inside, so I am innocent in all of this (ha ha) However the others my age were country boys and knew better. But being kids overshadowed knowledge. Of course it didn't take long before one of the adults saw what we were doing. Not only did we get yelled at. I remember one cousin for sure got a whipping. I am not sure if the other boys did. I remember feeling bad, because I was in on it.
Funny how little things like that stick with you an entire life time

To Grandmother’s House We Go

Several post back someone asked me about the house that I am showing in my header. I meant to answer the question in the next post and something came up and it slipped my mind. I’m sorry I can’t remember now who asked, but I wanted to let them know that the house is the one my grandparents on my dad’s side lived in when I was a child. My grandfather was a share cropper and this home was the sixteenth home that him and my grandmother had lived in. They were married in 1923 and moved into this house in 1950. My grandfather died in 1959 and my grandmother continued to live there until 1986 when she moved along with my old maid Aunt to a newer home across town. She lived there until her death in Aug. 2000. My Aunt continues to live in the new home.

Memories of Christmas Past

Hi Everyone
I wanted to share a Christmas memory with you today. It was 1965 and I was twelve. My dad had just got transferred from San Diego CA where we had been living since I was five to Norfolk VA. My parents were excited because it would be closer to both of there parents who lived just south of Atlanta GA and we planned on spending a few days there before settling in to the new area.
I have no idea why, but for some reason we stopped in Louisiana to spend Christmas Eve with family friends. I remember feeling a bit frightened and just knew I would be disappointed come Christmas morning, because for some reason I didn't think my parents had packed any gifts for my brother or I. Well, not only was I wrong, but I received a record album that I really wanted. It was my first "grown up" record and I am sure if I went searching in my mom's shed I would still find it.
Don't ask me why I thought of this today, but I did....Funny how sometimes we forget the little things that meant so much. I guess it just goes to show Santa can find us no matter where we are

Wishing you and yours wonderful Christmas memories. I hope Santa is good to everyone and fills your stockings with joy, love and hope for a bright and happy New Year.
This will be my last post until after Christmas, so take care until then
Hugs
Patty

A Christmas in Bloggyland Tour

Christmas Myspace Divider

Good Morning

Muse Swings is hosting the Christmas in Bloggyland Tour today and I thought it would be a fun way to visit blogs I have not been to before and get a chance to drool over all the beautiful things everyone is posting about. I have already posted some photos of my things this year so if your a regular reader of mine please bear with me as I report them again.

Christmas Myspace Divider

This is our tree this year

and this is my favorite ornament on it
.

It is not very pretty and as you can see it is old, but when I was a child it hung on our tree. It is the only one that has survived the fifty plus years since then so I cherish it the most out of all of the ones I have had over the years.

Christmas Myspace Divider

Here are some of my favorite decorations on the top of my entertainment center

This is my kitty Maggie, she thinks she is the queen of the house

At lest she is laying some where other than the shelves with my snowmen on them.

I have two cats and they love to knock off the things I keep on display

It is hard to decorate when you have an apartment that is small like mine, but I always enjoy putting out a few things.

Our Christmas this year as with Christmas in the past will start on Christmas Eve with a family dinner at my mothers house.

The last few years have been a bit sad because we lost my dad four years ago on Dec. 22, but he loved Christmas so I always try to look forward to that night because it is one of the few times of the year that the entire family is in the same place at the same time.
We load her tree with packages and then all sit down to eat. One of our favorite traditions is to have
Christmas Myspace Divider

Cheese Fondue

2 T flour
8 oz Swiss Cheese
1 1/2 c dry white wine, (preferably Emerald Dry by Paul Mason)
4 to 6 oz. Gruyere Cheese
12 oz. Muenster or Monterrey Jack Cheese

Put wine in fondue pot and heat to just below boiling. Have all the cheese chopped in small cubes. Coat the cheese with the flour and add it a little at a time to the hot wine. Sire over medium heat until all the cheeses are melted. Keep warm on electric burner or Sterno while serving
Have cutes of hard bread cut into bit size pieces and ready to spear and dip into the cheese.

Along with this yummy cheese and bread we usually have bits of streak which we fry in hot grease heated in the fondue pot. Sometimes as a special treat we have boiled shrimp, which taste so good dipped in butter. There is usually cake and pie, along with my mom's famous.

Peanut Butter Fudge

2 tablespoons peanut butter
2 cups (1 lb.) sugar or brown sugar
1 cup (1/2 pt.) milk
1 cup (1/4 lb.) chopped nuts
1 pinch salt
1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Boil sugar, and milk until it forms soft ball when tried in cold water, or reaches 240° F. on candy thermometer, remove from fire and stir in vanilla, peanut butter and nuts beat until creamy. Pour into greased pan and cut into squares before it becomes hard.

After we eat, gifts are opened, and we visit awhile. But not to long because we have a long drive home and we need to get our sleep. The next morning we will be up bright and early to go to my daughters House before my grandson wakes up so we can be there to watch the look on his face as he comes down to see what Santa Brought.

I know he is going to be excited no matter what he gets. I hope each of you visiting here today have a Christmas filled with love and joy.
Thank you for stopping by. I leave you with this:

Small Town Southern Man

The first time I heard this song on the radio I thought of my daddy. He was born in rural Georgia to a farmer. As he grew up he road the bus into town to work in a cotton mill. He met my mom and married her when she was just 16 and he was 20. Daddy's big dream was to go to Nashville and be a country music singer. He did go and make a demo, and it got played on the air in his little home town. But sometimes dreams have to be set aside and that is what he did when I was born a few years after they married. He joined the Navy when I was about four years old. He retired twenty years later, and went on to retire from another job. He worked hard all his life to raise us three kids. He went to church on Sunday and loved his Lord. He also loved his country music and Alan Jackson was his favorite singer. He never got to see Alan in person and this is one thing I have always wished he could have done. I lost my daddy three years ago this Saturday. I was there when he took his last breath, and the angels came to take him.
This one is for you daddy.
I miss you.

SMALL TOWN SOUTHERN MAN....BY ALAN JACKSON

Born the middle son of a farmer
And a small town Southern man
Like his daddy's daddy before him
Brought up workin' on the land
Fell in love with a small town woman
And they married up and settled down
Natural way of life if you're lucky
For a small town Southern man

First there came four pretty daughters
For this small town Southern man
Then a few years later came another
A boy, he wasn't planned
Seven people livin' all together
In a house built with his own hands
Little words with love and understandin'
From a small town Southern man

Chorus:
And he bowed his head to Jesus
And he stood for Uncle Sam
And he only loved one woman
(He) was always proud of what he had
He said his greatest contribution
Is the ones you leave behind
Raised on the ways and gentle kindness
Of a small town Southern man
(Raised on the ways and gentle kindness)
(Of a small town Southern man)

Callous hands told the story
For this small town Southern man
He gave it all to keep it all together
And keep his family on his land
Like his daddy, years wore out his body
Made it hard just to walk and stand
You can break the back
But you can't break the spirit
Of a small town Southern man

(Repeat Chorus)

Finally death came callin'
For this small town Southern man
He said it's alright 'cause I see angels
And they got me by the hand
Don't you cry, and don't you worry
I'm blessed, and I know I am
'Cause God has a place in Heaven
For a small town Southern man

(Repeat Chorus)

Blog Anniversary

It seems the one year anniversary of my blog has come and gone and I didn't even think about it. My back post show I started this blog on the 12th of Feb.2006 but it was really way before that. I just started over on that date. For several months before I published this blog I had a different one. About that time I was having some bad issues with my ex-husband's lady friend and one of her friends. They were reading it and comments were flying back and forth between us that weren't very nice. In a fit of anger I deleted that blog. I lost everything. I was mad at myself for losing my temper, so I thought about it started over again. I'm glad I did. I have enjoyed blogging this year. A lot has changed in the twelve months since this blog started. My ex's friend and I have reached an understanding. I won't go far as to say we will ever be best friends, but we respect each other now and have both come to realize we don't hate the other. We have a lot more in common than we thought and I am glad she is there for my ex. I hope she feels the same way about me. As for her friend, we have come a long way. We didn't know each other at all. She only knew what she had been told (and most of that was one sided). I know now she was only sticking up for her friend. I have come to care about and admire her alot and read her blog daily.
Isn't it funny how life can take a twist and turns and become something you lest expect in just a years time.
To recap my year
One year ago, we had just moved, we were staying with my duaghter. My husband and I did not have a job yet. I had no pets. I was fighting with my ex husbands girlfriend.
One year later. We are in our own place, we both work, we have pets, the ex had a heart attack which was bad, but it brought his lady friend and I closer (and her friend and I closer)
Life is good

Monday Memories

Monday Memories: Did I ever tell you about The Time I Spent The Night In A Cave

I found this idea on another website and thought I would use it on my blog today. . Doing a memory sounds like fun. Even though I am a little late getting it in since the clock says it is really Tuesday already I thought it might be fun so I am going to give it a try.

About ten years ago when I was still married to my ex, I spent the night in a cave with 100 kids. Yep you read it right. A Cave! This is how it happened. My ex was teaching NJROTC at the time in Knoxville TN. Part of the job was taking the kids on field trips. The best I remember this trip was probably to learn survival. I am sure though that I am the only one who worried if I would survive. Our group actually only consisted of about 20 kids, but we had both boys and girls. We went toThe Lost Sea Which is a cavern in Sweetwater, Tennessee. It is a beautiful cave, and is listed by the Guinness Book of World Records as the world's largest underground lake. We took what is called "The Wild Tour" which took us into parts of the cave that is not open to the general public. It had very narrow passage ways and tiny openings. It was a lot of fun, and the best part was we spent the night. The cave itself was very muddy and damp. It wouldn't have been so bad, but the night that we were there so were the boy scouts. Yep, about 100 of them for a jamboreee. Here we were with about 8 high school girls and the rest was boys. Needless to say I did not get any sleep that night.

My favorite dog

I think out of all the dog breeds, the Collie is my all time favorite. Part of this is due to me remembering my first dog. When I was about 4 we had a collie who's name was Queen. I can remember being outside and Queen walking along side me. My mom tells me that is because she would guard me and make sure I didn't try and cross the road. Evidentially we lived on a corner and I was allowed to play on the sidewalk but not go across the street. She was a smart dog. I think we had her for a couple of years. When I was five my dad joined the Navy and we moved from GA. to CALIF. Queen was given to a farm where she lived out her life herding sheep. We went once a few years after the move to visit her. She remembered us and I have never forgot her.
I suppose this happy childhood memory lead me to my love of Lassie
I remember sitting in front of the TV watching her adventures. No matter how much trouble Timmy got in Lassie always came to the rescue. I always knew she would get help in the end, Timmy would be fine and life would go on. I loved that dog and always wished for my own Lassie. I did get to see Lassie once. He (did you know Lassie was really a male) was in a parade in San Diego. It was a proud moment. I think the dog impressed me more than anything else. Although I do remember once seeing Roy Rogers and Dale Evans, riding on Trigger at the same parade.(I can't remember if it was the same year)
While remembering all this a few days ago, I decided to do a Google search for Lassie. I found theOfficial site along with theUnofficial one, which has some wonderful Lassie Trivia on it. While playing around on the official site I ran across the web page for
Jon Provost who stared in the original show as Timmy. He has a great site, and after I finished reading it I stopped to sign his guestbook. Much to my delight a couple of days later I received the following email. It was from Jon himself. I am posting it here for everyone to read. Be sure and visit and tell him hello.

Dear (My real name)
Thanks for your kind words about my work on the show. I really
appreciate you taking the time to let me know what it meant to you.
Stay
well and stop by the site again soon. And now that I have your e-mail
address, I'll let you know when I'm going to be on TV or in your area.
Best,
Jon Provost

A nice memory

"Many people will walk in and out of your life, but only true friends will leave footprints in your heart."

This is my friend Sharon. She has been on my mind a lot lately. Sharon passed away about 8 years ago. I wasn't with her in the end. I have always regretted that, but there were things going on in my life at the time that pevented it. I know some people will disagree with me, but I know she understood why.
Sharon and I were very close. We shared a lot with each other. We even had some secrets that have never been revealed. They never will be. When Sharon passed she was cremated. Her ashes were released several years later after her husband re-married. I wasn't invited to attend that day, but I was there in spirit. From what I was told it was a very beautiful ceremony and for that I do thank her family.
Even though there are differences now that prevent me from being close to the family. Sharon will always have a very special part in my life. She was one of a kind and no one can replace her.
May she find peace in the after life.
